William Kurt Armstrong, M.D.

Dr. William “Kurt” Armstrong is a scientist and naturalist at heart. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Biology at The University of Montana and made the Dean’s List throughout college. Dr. Armstrong’s love for nature led him to become an avid ice-climber in Glacier National Park in winter and a fly-fisherman in summer. He then studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin in Ireland, where he obtained a rigorous medical education and gained tremendous first-hand experience in primary care. During his time in Ireland, Dr. Armstrong enjoyed the country’s rich musical culture and also loved to surf Irish waves, being a lifelong surfer himself.

After completing his residency at the Kaiser Permanente Orange County Family Medicine Residency Program in Irvine, California, Dr. Armstrong became the Chief Resident and was awarded the American Academy of Family Physicians/Bristol-Myers Squibb Award For Excellence in Graduate Medical Education. He was selected as 1 of only 10 people across the United States to be given this honor.

In 2010, Dr. Armstrong was hired by Newport Family Medicine, where he has been practicing ever since. Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Department of Community Medicine for Hoag Hospital.

Dr. Armstrong enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two children, surfing, playing music, hiking, reading, restoring VW buses, collecting rare books, and completing the Sunday crossword without looking up the answers.
